Scott and Patricia: the cooks at work

the plumber at work

a cook and a guest... both look happy!

For over a month my non-cooking husband and our non-cooking friend Patricia have been planning to cook for me and her husband so we can take a night off. After almost 6 weeks of planning meetings on the phone and a grocery shopping trip hours before, a meal is served to Steve, Lukas, me and our friends Bill and Lucy. Scott and Patricia have been calling it “the doofus dinner”.

The two doofi ended up cooking roast lamb, sweet potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, and an arugula salad, (those things were on our ingredient list for the allergy rotation diet, which was provided to them) Of course, no doofus dinner would be complete without the smoke alarm going off during the cooking (fine particulate apparently) For dessert, Straus ice cream (and rice dream for Lukas). We added some homemade wine from my uncle Al and there was also supposed to be homemade Meyer lemon liqueur but somehow during the cooking of the Doofus dinner it disappeared—I guess they needed a little courage…

Meanwhile, I couldn’t help myself, I set the table and Lukas and then I planted a few things in the yard out back. It was great to not have to do all that cooking and just enjoy as someone else cooked and guests arrived. Lukas loves guests and fancies himself a great host. I like to foster this idea. Lucy commented on how great he was at the table and I have to say, he does take food pretty seriously, and guests as well.

The doofi were very proud and so were we and they even cleaned up the kitchen as they went. Now they have shown themselves and will have to have a sequel.

Dinah, it was—I think Patricia was tired of waiting to come eat at our place so she came up with this idea so they could come over! Heehee!
