prepare to dye!

will I fill the jar?

hollyhocks and friends

up close and personal

I’ve been saving and drying these hollyhock blossoms for making natural plant dye later this summer. In the book Harvesting Color, by Rebecca Burgess, there is a chapter on hollyhocks making a really amazing looking minty turquoise colored dye. Since we have them in the yard, I am saving them up for a sunny day of outdoor dying. It takes 20 dried blossoms per 2 1/2 ounces of fiber so how many I end up with will determine the amount of fiber I can use. Natural limits!
