around the garden, from basil to tobacco

Finally we have grown basil that is flourishing. I think it just wanted to be next to its friends, oregano, tomatoes and squash! And the full sun doesn’t hurt… We’ve started harvesting it to dry (and use fresh of course!). Lavender is also ready to harvest—maybe past ready. I just topped the tobacco plants and at least the bottom leaves are ready to harvest. Thus continues the bizarre journey to grow our own tobacco (we don’t even smoke) for ceremonial use. It supposedly takes five years to cure after drying, and it’s a touchy process temperature-wise, so I’ll just see what happens. The indigo is almost ready for its first harvest too but I’ll need to be prepared for the dye pots and figure out what will be dyed blue. Gravenstein apples are falling. Lots to do in even our humble garden!
