a new way of seeing

September 21, 2011

Today on our morning walk we stroll all the way to a local café and back again. Lukie has his camera. “His camera?” you may say, “isn’t he three?” Since his dad is a photographer, he has seen a lot of the camera and seems to know more about it than I do. I am cracking up this morning as he shows me how to use the video function…

I realize how young he is when I see what he is photographing and how he is photographing it. He has such a beautiful innocent vision of his surroundings. He notices a baby in a stroller and stops the mama so he can take a picture of the baby. Then we meet a couple friends and he wants to take their photos. Beyond that, he aims the camera up at a tree, then a pot on the ground, or some leaves. We stop frequently to document the current scene and even at dinner time, the food is photographed very seriously. His favorite is the video taken of the fan in Scott’s office blowing cool air at him and his camera. Heehee!

It’s fun to see things a little bit differently and really experience the café walk I take all the time as a true open-eyed journey, as though I’ve never walked here before and never will again.
