photographer’s kid

October 12, 2011

Today Scott went out on a photo job and Lukas really wanted to go with. He was so cute, helping Scott load equipment and crying when he couldn’t go with. When Scott returned, Lukas insisted he set up lights and show him how they worked. Then he stepped in with his own ideas…

This brings me back to the idea of homeschooling. I’ve been reading John Holt’s Teach Your Own again. When Lukas is older, if he homeschooled, he could go on a job with Scott and learn all about photography. Or hang out with a sailboat captain, or a copy machine repairman, or a marine biologist. He already has a way of finding the things he wants to learn about and diving in. Since his birthday is right after the cutoff for kindergarten, he has an extra year to wait anyway, so we’ll check it out when that time comes. In the meantime, we’re homeschooling preschool by playing a lot…and taking photos.
