little bits

November 14, 2011

Onions, shallots, smallage, parsley, tomatoes, all bits of garden that made our soup so good the other day! One of the benefits of a garden is being able to grab those little things for soups, salads and stir fries. There is always a supply of herbs out there! It is late Fall early winter transformation time in the garden and this week Lukas and I are ready to clean up and mulch and plant a few new things. For those of you who are wondering what smallage is, it’s a plant that looks like parsley but tastes like celery. The perfect solution when you don’t want to cut up celery! The shallots are from our friend’s garden and it’s the first year I’ve ever grown onions. It is truly wonderful to go outside and grab an onion when needed.
